Job Description:
Rare and exciting opportunity for junior to senior common-law qualified Solicitors with experience working in Financial Services Regulatory for an exclusive role to work with an award-winning In-House legal team at a government authority, based in Doha, Qatar. The role would report directly to the Chief Legal Officer whilst liaising with Economic leaders and other government and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a key member of the highly respected Legal Department by providing a proactive and all-around legal service to the government entity and its affiliated entities, including regulatory, corporate, commercial, policy, strategic, and company secretarial matters.
- Provide sound, business-oriented, and effective legal advice on a wide variety of matters relating to the activities and functioning of all the entity’s business teams and functions (and those of its affiliated entities).
- Pro-actively support, as a trusted business partner, the entity’s various departments to help them achieve their strategies, goals, and objectives.
- Advise on and lead the drafting and/or review of the entity’s legislative instruments, including Regulations and Rules (including required updates and amendments) as well as manuals, policies, and procedures, with input from key stakeholders.
- Advise on the establishment and regulation of various forms of corporate structures.
- Draft, review, and advise on a wide variety of commercial contracts and other related documents (including those that may be used for marketing and litigation purposes) required by the entity (and its affiliates) from time to time.
- Lead or participate in regulatory investigations being conducted by the entity, whether internal or external, and whether in its own right or with another State body.
- Assist, and where required, lead on engagements with various State entities to resolve the entity’s strategic challenges through advocating policy positions, motivating strategically beneficial outcomes, writing opinions, developing official responses, etc.
- Managing stakeholders to enhance the reputation and relationship of the entity with a wide variety of entities and stakeholders in the State.
- Where required, lead or assist with the management of dispute resolution processes where the entity is a claimant or a defendant.
- Provide strategic legal support, within the mandate of the entity and its affiliates, to other governmental entities or establishments, under the supervision of the CLO.
- Train and act as a mentor for junior team members as and when required by the CLO.
- Research various legal matters and write papers to share those with the entity/its affiliates, and/or for publication externally.
- As required by the CLO, review publications of other departments to ensure they are legally sound.
- Participate in events hosted or sponsored by the entity and its affiliates, and where appropriate, participate as a speaker.
- Provide training sessions as and when needed to employees of the company and its affiliated entities to raise awareness on various legal matters.
- Manage the engagement of external counsel and ensure accurate, cost-effective delivery of third-party legal services within budget and on time.
Key Requirements:
- LLB from a recognized institution.
- Arabic fluency would be a plus.
- Common law qualification.
- International law firm experience.
- No Arabic fluency or regional experience required!
